Here are a few steps parents and caregivers can take to help keep children safe from medicine poisoning:
Store medicines up and away and out of sight from children. It is important to put medicines away after every-use, even if you are going to use the medicine again in just a few hours.
“Think” like a child. Children are explorers. Even though medicines stored in nightstands or purses might be out of sight, they are still within reach of a curious child. Be sure to remove medicines from such locations and to inspect the ground where children might find medicine when unattended.
Help guests keep children safe. Many of us carry medicines with us in coats or purses. When you have guests, store their bags and coats up high to help ensure children can’t find any medicines your visitors might bring with them.
