How to Protect Floor with Felt Nail on Floor Protector Pads

1.  Store the floor protectors at room temperature in a dry space.
2.  Use a rubber flat head mallet to tap protectors into chair legs.  A regular hammer can be used in conjunction with a short 1x4 wood board.  This process eliminates denting and checking to the nail-on component surface.
3.  Drill an undersized pilot hole for the nail if the wood of the chair leg is dense hardwood and or if the chair leg is small in size to avoid splitting the chair leg.  Be careful not to drill too large of a hole which can cause a loose fit.
4.  Avoid abrasive damage through excessive wear to the metal or nylon head to which the Felt Pads black nylon hook component is attached. Scratches to this surface can compromise the adhesive bond and make replacing Sets more difficult.
5.  The nail-on Felt Pads protector provides for easy maintenance
(a) Replace the felt pad when worn and dirty
(b) Replace Felt Pads Set if the hook component is damaged
(c) The metal or nylon nail-on component typically shouldn’t need replacement.
6.  The best maintenance procedure is to monitor and change the replaceable felt pad as necessary to avoid damaging the hook component.  Pad replacement takes less than a minute per chair.  This process will increase the life of your floor, chairs and stools.
7.  If the nail hole in the chair leg is too large to secure the Nail-on component tightly, apply wood glue to a tooth pick and tap into the hole and break off flush.

Frequently Asked Question & Tips of Felt Pads

How to install the felt pad floor protector?
where you will be applying the felt pad, such as bottom of a chair leg, with a dry rag. Use a small amount of soap and water to clean the area if there is any buildup to create a smooth, clean surface for the felt pad to adhere to.Peel the paper off the adhesive back of the felt pad and press it firmly onto the bottom of the piece of furniture and hold for around 10 seconds to create a tight seal. Or, lightly tap the pad onto the leg with a hammer if you are using a tap-in felt pad.

Can I install the felt pad floor protector over the old protector?
No, you should remove the old protector completely, including adhesive, and then depending on the leg bottom condition, prep as necessary. See maintenance tips

How can I remove the old protector?
Use a beveled wood chisel or a small ‘catspaw”. The catspaw also is great for removing small nails or tacks.Both are available at a hardware store. Use care and don’t damage the wood.

What side protector do I need?
Choose either self-adhesive or tap-in ones, and the sizes and thicknesses that best fit your needs. Felt pads come in all sizes and thicknesses -- choose a thicker pad for heavier furniture -- as well as even large un-cut squares of self-adhesive felt, so you can cut the shape you need to custom-fit furniture bottoms with unusual shapes.
Do I need to add adhesive?
No, with PSA( Pressure Sensitive Adhesive) which is the type of adhesive used on floor protectors. Additional adhesive will actually weaken the bond. PSA is used for this application because it doesn’t harden. An adhesive that hardens and becomes brittle will eventually fracture and fail for this type of application.

How long will the felt pad floor protector last?
The life of the pads will depend on many variables:
Type of floor surface        Condition of chair
Condition of floor surface    Quality of installation
Cleanliness of floor         Maintenance
Climate/ Season            Traffic
Size of protector

Tips & Warnings
For the felt and fabric, use colors that match your chair legs so that people won't notice them. Alternately, use a color that complements the chair in order to enhance the design.

Be sure to wash your fabric pieces and felt pads every few months.

Regularly check the felt pad is under the bottom of chair.
